Machel celebrates 30 with 3Zero Platinum Rum
Date: 2/17/13
Machel Montano now has his own rum. The 3Zero Platinum Rum, in honour of Montano’s 30th year in the music business, was launched at the Girls Nite Out fete which was held at Pier 1, Chaguaramas. While throngs of people partied to the music of Nadia Batson and SASS the Band, Swappi and others, a selected group of VIPs were treated to a private launch of the new drink in the banquet hall.
Almost everyone sipped on the rum, which was served at an exclusive bar to get a taste. Smoother than most rums, 3Zero, everyone agreed, packed a heavy punch with its deceptive Vodka-like qualities. The rum was mixed by Patrick Patel, a master blender, who affirmed that it was indeed stronger than traditional rums. He said it is a combination of Caribbean spirits, which have been blended together to come up with a formula that he believes would satisfy the palate of local rum drinkers. Montano, he said, was very integral to the design of the rum.
Food distribution company Hadco, is the distributor of 3Zero which is the product of a joint initiative between Patel, Montano, club owner Johnny Soong and radio owner Anthony Chow Lin On. “We think that the rum is going to be a big success because of its association with Machel, an iconic world-class entertainer who is born and bred in T&T and because its taste profile is different to anything on the local market now with its smoothness and its hint of sweetness,” said John Hadad, executive chairman of Hadco.
The alcohol content of 3 Zero is 52 per cent by volume, which is higher than regular golden rums which have 43 per cent alcohol content by volume. 3Zero Platinum Rum was launched in honour of Montano’s 30-year anniversary in music. The sleek, clean label of the rum was designed by graphic designer Jeunanne Alkins and her team at Everything Slight Pepper.
