The many late night’s caught up with me on Day 2 so I began the day at the “Ask a RumXP” booth answering questions and talking rum. The festival is Disney World for rum fans and the conversations I have there always remind me how big the industry is and how much I still can learn. Later I attended the “Cachaça: Brasil In A Bottle” seminar and spent the afternoon discussing and tasting various Brazilian Cachaças.
As the festival ended some of the RumXPs moved to Ft. Lauderdale’s Mai-Kai for dinner and drinks. A small group of us received a rare treat as Mai-Kai’s General Manger Kern Mattei took us on a quick ‘behind the scenes’ tour of the Mai-Kai’s kitchen and backbar. Learning how the restaurant operates and seeing their amazing rum collection was memorable. To end the day our group headed to Miami Beach’s The Rum Line and then on to The Regent Cocktail Club for late night cocktails. Day 2 was fairly laid-back but did not conclude until 4am.
