What are “Uncharted Rums”? These are rums I have not yet had the pleasure of reviewing. This is my way to highlight and promote great rums from around the world that might be unfamiliar to most rum shoppers. So until I am able to review each of these rums they shall remain “Uncharted” to me.
Below Deck Coffee Rum
Portland, Oregon-based Eastside Distilling has been producing their quality, small batch Below Deck Rum since 2008.
Below Deck Coffee Rum is infused with strong coffee flavor without added sweeteners. They use locally-roasted Arabica beans which provides a deep smooth richness. Portland is known for its love of coffee so why wouldn’t they infuse their rum with java!
At the 2011 San Francisco World Spirits Competition, Below Deck Coffee Rum was awarded the Silver Medal in the Flavored Rum category.
Eastside Distilling says that their coffee rum mixes well with citrus base cocktails for summer time drinks and is perfect for warming up winter cocktails like a toddy or hot cider.
Below Deck Small Batch Spiced Rum
On a quest to create a top quality, naturally flavored spiced rum, Eastside Distilling now produces their small batch, Below Deck Spiced Rum which is available in individually numbered bottles in their tasting room.
Below Deck Small Batch Spiced Rum opens with mix of mulling spices and hints of citrus zest. Across the palate spices continues to reveal themselves led by warm nutmeg and vanilla flavors. It finishes with a revitalizing burst of fizzy cola and heat.
Rich hazelnut, tawny and caramel hues comes from within the bottle, and aromatic notes of burnt sugar, allspice, toffee, cinnamon, candied ginger, and molasses rush your olfactory senses when released.
Below Deck Ginger Rum
Below Deck Ginger Rum is is a bold and zesty rum, handcrafted and flavored using natural ingredients. We don’t sugar, so it mixes well without making your drink overly sweet. It is easy enough to make it sweeter by adding simple syrup or sweetened soda such as cola or 7-up. Our friends think Ginger Rum and cola (or root beer) is a wonderful drink.
We have many innovative recipes, still, we encourage you to try creating some of your own drinks. If you make anything of which you are particularly proud, let us know. For refreshing, summer time drinks, a citrus base works very well. If you are looking to warm up, a toddy or hot cider is another great choice.
Below Deck Ginger Rum is also a great ingredient for things such as rum balls, pumpkin pie, and just about anything else with a rich, spiced flavor.
Below Deck Silver Rum
Below Deck Silver Rum is a clean, smooth and slightly sweet light rum that will compliment any cocktail – from tropical drinks to the classic rum and cola. As a mixing rum, Below Deck Silver holds its own when blended with strong citrus flavors and other mixers. We suggest the venerable Mai Tai or the spunky Mojito as a fun “first date” in your long, satisfying relationship with the popular, dependable Below Deck Silver Rum.
We have many innovative recipes, still, we encourage you to try creating some of your own drinks. If you make a delicious cocktail using our products, let us know. We’d love to hear about it! If we like it too, we will add it to our recipe list.
