Monday, February 5th, was a dream day for rum nerds across the United States. Many of the world’s foremost rum authorities gathered in the Brooklyn’s Dumbo Loft to celebrate the arrival of Velier rums to the United States.
Velier offerings, available throughout Europe, have long been high on the list of American rum aficionados. For 70 years Velier, headquartered in Italy, has been importing and exporting the world’s top spirits. Since the early 1980s, company head Luca Gargano has built strong ties with the world’s top rum producers. Their offerings run the gamut of top-quality, aged rums. From single-vintage rums, barrel-proof rums, extreme-aged rums and specialty releases, Velier has earned the reputation for dealing in only the best rums.
According to Wayne Curtis, noted spirits writer, “Vellier is taking a dual approach in educating, starting with the trade, then working to make the styles of rum more accessible to consumers.”
To sell High End/Super/Ultra Premium rums in America, Velier needs to work with industry professionals and convince them to identify artisan rums among the world’s top spirits. For consumers, they should not expect to see Velier releases in every corner liquor store across the country. No, Velier specialty and limited releases will only find their way into the country’s finest bars and retailers.
