The World’s largest cocktail festival, Tales of the Cocktail, has published a number of videos of seminars held during last year’s festival. Users can now enjoy them for free online.
A couple of my favorites are:
– “10 Questions to Ask Every Craft Distiller” hosted by Wayne Curtis (author of “And a Bottle of Rum: A History of the New World in Ten Cocktails”) with a panel consisting of Scott Blackwell (High Wire Distillery, Charleston); Christian Krogstad, (House Spirits Distillery, Portland); Maggie Campbell, (Privateer Rum, Ipswich); Brian Prewitt, (A. Smith Bowman Distillery, Fredericksburg).
Note: I attended a version of this seminar at the 2016 BevCon Charleston and was fortunate enough to have one-on-one conversations with Wayne, Scott and Christian about “Craft” and its marketing connotations.
– “The Dark Ages of Mixology, 1967-1988” presented by Jeff “Beachbum” Barry and David Wondrich given at Tales of the Cocktail – Mexico City. The two explore the history behind the ridiculously named and overly sweetened cocktails from the late-1960’s into the late-1980s.
